Curriculum:
In St. Rose Grammar School, the curriculum is developed and organized according to diocesan guidelines with the approval of the Superintendent of Schools. Implementation of this policy is conducted under the advisory supervision of the principal and vice-principal with the help of subject coordinators. Teachers extend and vary the curriculum according to the needs of the children. The curriculum promotes a quest for knowledge, an understanding of spiritual values, an awakening of curiosity and encourages self-esteem. Teaching methods are selected to meet the needs and interests of the individual student. Teachers provide activities and supplementary materials to compliment their teaching style. Library resources and audio-visual aides can supplement all texts.

K-5th Grade Curriculum - Elementary School
Students in grades one and two build on the foundation laid in kindergarten. Basic skills continue to develop through structured activities, hands-on experiences and small and large group instruction. Students develop an awareness of their role in a community of faith and learn to experience and rejoice in God’s world. Second grade students prepare for the reception of the sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist.
An integrated language arts curriculum links reading, English, spelling, writing, penmanship and listening skills within a variety of children's literary works. The math program develops skills from the concrete to abstract through the use of manipulatives. Science and Social Studies are presented thematically
The curriculum for fourth and fifth grades emphasizes independence and higher level thinking skills.
An integrated language program incorporates reading, writing, listening, speaking and spelling. Library and study skills are developed and refined. The religion program for the intermediate grades is the study of the Ten Commandments, Sacraments and the Beatitudes which foster moral values introduced in lower grades. The mathematics program is a combination of computational and hands on experiences with a strong emphasis on critical thinking and problem solving. The science program is a continuation of the lower grade programs. Science experiments and projects illustrate the children’s creative abilities. Social Studies concentrates on United States geography and history. The fourth grade studies the regions of the United States highlighting New Jersey. The fifth grade curriculum continues to develop the history of the northern and southern neighbors of the United States.
6th Grade - 8th Grade Curriculum - Middle School
Middle school students build upon basic skills and move towards a more abstract level of thinking. General Science is taught in grades six, seven and eight that includes Life, Earth and Physical Sciences. Multi-media and computer software enhance the middle school science program. The mathematics curriculum guides the students toward a more abstract level of thinking through logical reasoning and problem solving skills. Students in grades six and seven master basic skills and are introduced to concepts in pre-algebra and begin to master one and two step equations. The mathematics program for the eighth grade is pre-algebra. An accelerated mathematics program is offered to qualified sixth and seventh grade students. In grade eight a percentage of these students are given the opportunity to attend Honors Algebra I at St. Rose High School.
The social studies curriculum includes the study of world history in the sixth grade while the seventh grade continues to develop the history of the United States. Eighth grade curriculum addresses modern history from the Civil War to the present. Students are encouraged to be aware of local and national issues. Language Arts stresses mastery of grammar and composition skills and emphasizes oral presentation and communication. The reading program develops an appreciation of fine literature by using a literature based program, sustained silent reading, book reports and lively class discussions. The religion program presents the Old Testament in sixth grade, the sacraments in seventh grade and history of the modern church and preparation for Confirmation in the eighth grade. The middle school students are provided with opportunities to increase awareness of the poor and needy, as well as ways to assist them.
